Limited Editions Sculptures | Pea Studio Family

February 4, 2023 5:35 pm — 7:00 pm

Young Collectors Hub, Ballroom, Bikaner House, between Pandara Rd, &, Shahjahan Rd, India Gate, New Delhi, Delhi, India

Princess Pea brings to the forefront of international issues of tradition, identity and celebrity with an underlying satire on global societal concerns, presented through a lifesize anime-style ‘living doll’ that can neither talk, smell nor see. Each piece is a work of art, conceptualized and made with great attention to detail by award winning craftsmen in India. Traditionally the craft of making wooden objects is said to have been practiced since 300 BC, from toys to decorative ornaments and images of deities.

In Etikoppaka more than 200 artisan families would be engaged in toy making but in the post independence period lack of demand in the local markets and low prices has critically threatened the sustainability of this industry. The tools are simple, yet through skillful craftsmanship passed down through generations, objects of beauty are made.

After the opening night, this exhibition will run from 11am-7pm from 5th – 12th February.

India Art Fair’s Young Collectors Programme, supported by Ruby’s Signature and curated by archaeologist and art historian Anica Mann, is a gateway to getting to know contemporary South Asian art. Taking place from 4 to 12 February at the Young Collectors Hub at Bikaner House in New Delhi, the programme is the perfect opportunity to discover new galleries and learn about various forms of art beyond traditional canvas paintings, such as photography, sculpture, video art, books, music and performance art. Specially designed for the culturally curious and new collectors, the Young Collectors Programme will also be great place to network and explore an exciting line-up of parallel events in the city.
