At Kolkata Centre for Creativity, the exhibition Reverie and Reality celebrates six decades of Jogen Chowdhury’s art – one of India’s most distinguished artists – bringing together works from all phases of his career, embracing a variety of media and themes. Born in 1939 in Faridpur, Chowdhury has confronted modern India, from the cataclysm of the Partition that engulfed Bengal to the present day, through a politics of resistance and bold expressive art, mostly executed in velvety black textures rendered against crisp white.
