Nature Morte presents Heart Land, an exhibition of new ceramic sculptures and wall pieces by the Delhi-based artist Vineet Kacker. Kacker’s works draw from the landscape, art, and iconography of the Himalayas, particularly Ladakh; from built forms that reference the sacred, as well as from a personal engagement with spiritual disciplines. Adapting techniques similar to those used in contemporary music, the artist samples and sequences familiar imagery from living traditions into contemporary visual works. The works combine multiple ceramic techniques within a single piece, recreating both landscapes and iconographies. Rough textures and the use of layered dry glazes create surfaces that reference the ancient and time-worn. These are contrasted with shiny porcelain embellishments alluding to that which is luminous and timeless. The exhibition will include works from multiple series, including Himalayan Landscapes, Sacred Geology, Mirror/Mandala and the Beyul: Hidden Valley panels.
