Akara Contemporary presents Acid Disco, featuring sculptures by UK-based artist Jonathan Trayte in his first solo show in India. Trayte’s playful works explore themes of cultivation and consumption, with his painted bronze sculptures evoking imagery reminiscent of confectionery and food. Drawing from his past culinary experiences and considering food as a fundamental material, he employs castings and facsimiles to examine the various ways we perceive and utilize our resources. His sculptures are often coated in meticulously painted layers, lending them a pop-art aesthetic that is both seductive and alluring. These striking assemblages function magnificently as both aesthetic objects and reflections of our burgeoning consumer culture.
