Aicon Contemporary presents Anatomy of a Horny Heart, a solo exhibition featuring works by Karachi based artist Affan Baghpati.
In this exhibition, Baghpati’s “objets terrible” — hybrid assemblages of metal, stone, plastic and other materials sourced from local markets of Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Hyderabad, Gujranwala and Rawalpindi—stir memories and invite interpretations. They trick the eye into a search for convention as domestic objects, popular keepsakes and memorabilia are encountered; then swiftly deny it such appeasement.
These objects enjoin with mass-produced “readymades” and European memorabilia to create humour, and a statement on the asymmetrical networks of production, circulation and discarding, that shape economies of consumption and waste.
