February 4-January 12, 2025

Gallery Art.Motif, Abraham and Thakore, D 25 Defence Colony, New Delhi

Gallery Art.Motif and Abraham and Thakore, present, Dot Dash Line, by artist Tilak Samarawickrema, an architect from Sri Lanka with a multi-faceted design background in art, textile design, animated cinema and architecture. ‘A Voyage in Sri Lankan Design’, a book on the artist and his work in architecture, art, crafts development and design in over 40 years, was published in 2012.  This show is a part of Defence Colony Art Nite and previews on February 4, from 5 to 10 pm.

It documents his creation of a unique design aesthetic in his hand-woven tapestries produced through a long standing collaboration with the traditional weavers of Talagune, Udu Dumbara in Sri Lanka. The Deutsches Textilmuseum in Germany and Norsk Form the architecture and design museum in Oslo have held exhibitions on his work. The Moma design store in NY marketed his tapestries for several years. There is a synergy between his woven tapestries and Abraham and Thakore’s  minimal design aesthetic.
