Arthshila Santiniketan is pleased to present Embracing Incompleteness, an exhibition of calligraphy and poetry by Nilanjan Bandyopadhyay, who has been greatly influenced by his cultural interactions with Japan.
Nilanjan has introduced a type of cursive Bengali calligraphy, using Japanese writing materials, which often transports one beyond its meaning, to an abstract and spiritual realm. He has also introduced an Indian tea ceremony, ‘Bodhi-Cha’, combining the elements of various eastern tea-traditions. He usually writes short verses in Bengali. His poetry and calligraphy celebrate the mystery of nature and the universe, the beauty of incompleteness impermanence, and the imperfection of life. His minimalist and ‘wabi’-life has found its home at ‘Kokoro’— his Japan-inspired residence and studio at Santiniketan.
