Jelili Atiku: Nobody is Born Wise

Nobody is Born Wise is a live durational performance, doubling as an installation where the Nigerian artist Jelili Atiku will invite audiences to involve and engage with the ritual of colouring sacred sculptural objects in turmeric—an integral component of the cultural, religious and culinary practices in India. The performance will be carried out in ceremonial style, adopting the collective energy and deep intellectual, physical and spiritual strength of crowd.

Jeliki Atiku is a Nigerian multimedia artist with political concerns for human rights and justice. Through drawing, installation sculpture, photography, video and performance, Jelili strives to help viewers understand the world and expanding their understanding and experiences, so that they can activate and renew their lives and environments. As the Chief Coordinator of Advocate for Human Rights Through Art, Jelili has travelled widely and participated in numerous performances, exhibitions and talks in Africa, Europe, America and Asia, including the 57th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale where he presented over 72 performers in his performance, Mama Say Make I Dey Go, She Dey My Back.
