Naina Dalal’s prints and paintings consistently convey the inner lives of her subjects: women, men, animals, and even inanimate objects defined by their relationship to humans who may or may not be present in the frame. This interiority, focusing on what is expressed during silences or what is inexpressible, imbues her art with a particular mood, or bhava, that primarily evokes the rasa of Karuna, compassion.
