The National Crafts Museum presents Nomad: The Art of Tribal Weaves across Borders from Anatolia to Tibet.
The remarkable sense of colour and design of the tribal rugs of this region echoes many of the abstract themes of contemporary art. The exhibition brings together exceptional flat woven gelims and pile rugs that show the extraordinary aesthetic sense of nomadic peoples living in often primitive conditions. The 50+ pieces on show come from the collection that David and Mandeep Housego have put together over the years. The beauty of this tradition that draws on natural dyes and hand spun wool is largely unknown in India.
