Led by artist Gurjeet Singh, this workshop invites participants to create their own soft sculptures using textiles to give shape to their unique mosaic-like identities, made of diverse experiences, memories and communities.
Gurjeet Singh was born in 1994 in Algon Kothi, Punjab and is a textile artist and is interested in telling stories of typically marginalised voices through soft sculpture. Introduced to art through his family and domestic activities such as stitching, embroidering and machine repair, he developed an early interest in the joy of creation. In his practice, Gurjeet takes an improvisational approach to art, letting his materials guide him in story-telling as much as the people he meets and interacts with. Gurjeet was a recipient of the Inlaks Fine Art Award in 2021. Gurjeet currently lives and works in Chandigarh.
The reimagined Workshop Space at India Art Fair will hold a series of workshops titled ‘Rediscovery’ curated by an art education organisation LAND (Learning through Arts, Narrative and Discourse). They will be held in Hindi and English, with a select number in Sign Language, and will be open to the public with one-on-one engagement through experience sheets and a 3-day art pedagogy program for educators around India.
