Magnum photographer Martin Parr narrates his travels to various Indian towns and sites since the early 1970s and discusses his latest photographic books with Rahaab Allana of the Alkazi Foundation. The talk will be followed by a signing of Martin’s books in India Art Fair’s new Bookshop & Cafe. 

Martin Parr, with over a hundred published books, is one of the best-known documentary photographers of his generation. A curator and editor, Parr has curated two photography festivals, Arles in 2004 and Brighton Biennial in 2010. More recently, Parr curated the Barbican exhibition Strange and Familiar. A member of the Magnum agency since 1994 and its President from 2013 – 2017, Parr has also been appointed the Visiting Professor of Photography at the University of Ulster. Ranging from the Tate and Pompidou to MoMA in New York, Parr’s work has been collected by several major institutions.

Rahaab Allana is the Curator of the Alkazi Foundation for the Arts in New Delhi; Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society and Honorary Research Associate at the University College in London. He has curated, contributed to and edited several publications and exhibitions on South Asian photography and its trans-national histories, working with museums, universities, festivals and other arts institutions such as The Brunei Gallery, Rencontres d’Arles, The Folkwang Museum, The Photography Museum and the Rubin Museum – among others. Rahaab also serves on the Advisory Committee and juries of various cultural fora, including the India-Europe Foundation for New Dialogue, the Prix Pictet Award, the Gabriele Basilico Prize in Architecture and Landscape Photography.
