Akar Prakar presents The Threads that Connect, artist Supriyo Karmakar’s first solo exhibition. The exhibition highlights the societal readings of a piece of fabric through various media including drawing, painting, installation and offers a commentary on the role clothes and attire play in our perception of the other.
The exhibition attempts to anatomize the textile and deconstructs how a piece of cloth can be used to reveal or conceal aspects of our lives. The hierarchies between socio-economic classes that are responsible for different standards of living and partial against those belonging to lower and middle class sections. The realities of our preconceived judgements and notions are highlighted through various media and images.
