Australia and India established diplomatic relations in the pre-Independence period, when the Consulate General of India was first opened as a Trade Office in Sydney. Taking forward their Indian connection, the Australian High Commission has worked with numerous artists and art organisations and  collectives over the years. Making Australian indigenous culture more accessible in India and bringing Indian exhibitions to Australia will continue to be a priority for the Australian High Commission.
