Akar Prakar presents, Figure-ing Out : The Ajanta Project and Now by artist Ganesh Haloi. Ganesh Haloi spent 7 years in Ajanta working for the Archaeological Survey of India from 1957-1963. During the years, he spent his time not only replicating the works in the caves but also researching the material strata of the rocks and murals, also publishing his research in the journal Art in Industry in 1964. He studied the foreshortening in the paintings, along with the subject material of the life of the Buddha and the Jatakas. Wandering around the neighbouring areas, he painted the surrounding places and the life of the villagers near the caves. Over the years, he spent his holidays and weekends painting numerous studies of the murals exhibited in the exhibition.
