Kalakriti Art Gallery presents Urbanesque, a solo exhibition of paintings by Vallery Puri.
Through her panoramic cityscapes, the artist paints a picture of transforming Hyderabad, with its rapidly scaling skyline and consequent erosion its natural topographic features, namely its vast granite boulders. A tribute to the rocks and hills of the city, the body of work thinks through the costs of modernisation.
In words of the artist: “It is a wistful contemplation of the picturesque purity of my childhood memories juxtaposed with contemporary reality—soaring skyscrapers, free-flowing flyovers, power towers, merging metro lines, rusty dust, fifty fumes, and the cacophony of ceaseless traffic, incessant honking, roaring drill machines and exploding rock that shake the very foundation of our once peaceful neighbourhoods. ”
