Ballad of the Known and Unknown is a solo show by Asavari Gurav is part of the Purushottam Annual Merit Award for Printmaking. Asavari’s ballad adds life to a variety of happenings, stories, poems, and songs, thereby unravelling itself and fully realizing its potential through image making.
The works are philosophical inquiries drawn from various literary sources, Goan Jazz songs, myth, culture, history, folklore,
German expressionist films, Theatre and Performance writings. Her works have myriad characters, creatures, actors, masks
and women as protagonists. There are references to stories about women, retelling them in context to space and time,
identity, body, nature, and the socio-political turmoil. Asavari’s work underlines the human condition and the complexity of
its narrative grows in response to the changing world.
