Wake up calls for my Ancestors is a long-term, critical artistic-archival project that gives an active voice to the silent voices of the Dalit and other archived subaltern subjects, which are appropriated, exhibited, made accessible, edited and disseminated as mere photographs.
The artist Sajan Mani has started an interdisciplinary dialogue about the collection of South Indian photographs at the Ethnological Museum Berlin, to which he invited three artists and three scientists to critically question the Eurocentric archiving practices.
