Jan van Eyck Academie invites applications from artists and designers coming from all fields, architects, and other artistic researchers, curators, (literary) writers, and critical thinkers, including duos and collectives, for the residency programme taking place in 2027.
Each selected participant receives the time and space to expand their artistic practice with the expert support of our advisers, the curator/resident liaison, the departments of Nature Research and Education & Development, as well as the library and the Jan van Eyck labs – Photography & Audiovisual, Material Matters, Food, Printing & Publishing, and Future Materials.
Application period: 3 October 2025 – 4 December 2025

Residency period: 15 January – 15 December 2027
APPLICATION STEPS
- After filling in your personal data, you will be asked to lay out your application in three fields, in English:
– Artist statement (250 words / 1400 characters)
– Motivation (500 words / 3150 characters)
– Project proposal (500 words / 3150 characters)
– You can also opt for submitting a link to a video or an audio file (max 8 min) laying out these three components – the artist statement, your motivation, and your project proposal combined. - After completing these fields, you will be asked to upload a single PDF file (max 10MB) containing the following:
– Documentation of recent work (max 25 pages showing work done within the last 5 years)
– Curriculum Vitae / resume (max 2 pages)
– After uploading the PDF, you will be redirected to PayPal to cover the cost of the application fee, before finalising your application. If you are unable to activate a PayPal account, please contact us. - Upon submission, you will receive an automatic confirmation that we have received your application. From this point on, you cannot make any adjustments to your application. If there are any questions or issues regarding your application or payment, we will contact you.
APPLICATION FEE
The application fee amounts to €65 (excl. VAT) or €78.65 (incl. VAT). The application fee is waived for applicants from and living in the Least Developed Countries, Low Income Countries and Lower Middle Income Countries and Territories on the DAC list of ODA recipients.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- The application fee amounts to €65 (excl. VAT) or €78,65 (incl. VAT); the application fee is waived for applicants from and living in the Least Developed Countries, Low Income Countries and Lower Middle Income Countries and Territories as mentioned on the DAC list of ODA recipients;
- The enrolment fee amounts to €2,750 (excl. VAT);
- Participants are expected to settle in Maastricht during their residency period;
- The languages of communication at the academy are Dutch and English. It is important to master the English language sufficiently to be able to converse and collaborate with fellow participants and staff members;
- Alumni of Rijksakademie or De Ateliers, two fellow Post-Academies in the Netherlands, are not eligible if they have been enrolled as full-time participants in the named institutions;
- The Jan van Eyck Academie is formally not an educational institute. Consequently, the participant cannot earn any ECTS and the institute does not provide degrees or certificates.
