KNMA x Mizoram University
microSPILLS: Open Call For Young Artists
Deadline: 12/03/2025
Initiated by the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) in collaboration with Mizoram University, this intensive educational programme invites emerging creative practitioners from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim to engage in a dynamic learning and making process, culminating in a pop-up exhibition.
KNMA is one of the few museums in South Asia dedicated to the advancement of modern and contemporary art in the region. Recently, the museum has expanded the ambit of engagement with the public by travelling to different parts of the country as part of fostering dialogue and creativity across age groups and communities.
About the Programme
microSPILLS explores the idea of “spilling” as an act of resistance — against rigid structures, predetermined paths, and contained identities. Just as a river forms new tributaries, spillages create possibilities beyond fixed frameworks. Rooted in morom—a philosophy of care and interconnectedness — the programme encourages participants to critically engage with artistic and conceptual practices that foster dialogue, collaboration, and alternative ways of seeing and making.
Through a combination of online sessions, onsite workshops, and discussions with leading artists and scholars, participants will explore ways to challenge conventional modes of image-making, materiality, and artistic intervention. The programme will create a space for exchange, questioning, and reimagining through experimentation, mentorship, and collective inquiry. The works and ideas developed will take shape in a pop-up exhibition, offering a platform for participants to showcase their responses to the themes of the programme.
