Mudhouse Residency unfolds in the sun-washed village of Agios Ioannis in Crete, where artists work among stone paths, olive groves and the slow pulse of island life. The program gathers a small international cohort for dedicated studio time, group critiques, and workshops held across the village’s restored stone structures. It’s designed for artists who want deep focus, a tight creative community, and a setting that feels deliciously unplugged from the usual noise.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The residency is open to:
- Emerging and established artists across visual, interdisciplinary and research-based practices
- Individuals over 18 years of age
- Artists who can commit to the full program dates
- Applicants comfortable working independently in a rural setting
No academic degree is required. English proficiency is helpful for group activities, though not formally mandated.
PROGRAM STRUCTURE
- Private or shared studio spaces across the village
- Open-ended time for research, production and experimentation
- Weekly group critiques and optional workshops
- Village-wide exhibition or open studio event at the end
- Access to communal spaces for writing, reading or roaming
- Connection with an international cohort of practitioners
APPLICATION PROCESS
Applications are submitted through SlideRoom and require:
- An artist statement
- A project proposal or intention for the residency
- Portfolio of recent work
- CV or short bio
- Application fee (as listed on SlideRoom)
KEY DEADLINES
- Early Acceptance Deadline: 31 October 2025
- Full Fellowship Award Deadline: 1 January 2026
- General Application Deadline: 1 April 2026 (rolling until filled)
