Open Call

Museum of Goa | Festivals of Goa: Multimedia Art Exhibition

Deadline: 24/08/2025

Goa’s cultural identity has been shaped over centuries by a series of political and social changes, from the Kadamba Dynasty to the Vijayanagar Empire, the Bijapur Sultanate, and later, the extensive influence of Portuguese colonial rule. These shifts have created a region where different cultures, religions, and traditions meet and influence one another. Today, Goa is a pluralistic society where local and colonial, indigenous and foreign, religious and secular practices coexist.

One of the most direct expressions of this hybridity can be observed in Goa’s festivals, which combine traditions, customs, and community practices and serve as living repositories of the state’s history. They are not just moments of celebration, but active remembering of Goa’s history and how Goan society has adapted and evolved over time. The Festivals of Goa exhibition explores these celebrations, both well-known and lesser documented, to better understand what they reveal about Goan society today. This exhibition also marks 10 years of the Museum of Goa and is part of its ongoing commitment to critically engage with Goan history, culture, and identity.
