NARS Foundation | The International Residency Programme | Call for Applications

OVERVIEW

The International Residency Programme is hosted by the NARS Foundation (New York Art Residency and Studios) in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, New York, USA. It supports emerging and mid-career artists and curators working across creative disciplines in a community-driven studio environment, encouraging artistic research, experimentation, and cultural exchange.

Residents have opportunities to present work through exhibitions, open studios, talks, screenings, performances, and workshops, and benefit from regular studio visits, gatherings, and professional support.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Open to international and US-based artists (emerging and mid-career) working across disciplines.
  • International applicants may apply during bi-annual open calls or at any time via rolling applications.
  • Applicants should have an active professional practice (students currently enrolled are not eligible unless they graduate before the residency starts).
  • All application materials must be in English.
  • US-based applicants who have lived in the US for three or more years may be eligible for specific fellowships.

APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Apply through the online Submittable application portal on the NARS Foundation website.
  • Complete personal and contact information, artist statement, CV, residency term preferences, and work samples.
  • A non-refundable application fee (~US$35) is required with submission.
  • International artists may also apply via rolling admission outside open-call windows.

  • 24/7 access to a private or semi-private studio space (≈250–300 sq ft) in a shared artist community.
  • Monthly studio visits with curators, artists, and arts professionals.

  • Opportunity to present work in curated exhibitions and public programming.

  • Note: Residency studios are workspace only — selected artists are responsible for housing, travel, and living costs.

DATES AND DEADLINES

  • Open Call for Spring 2026 International Residency: February 16 – March 2, 2026 (deadline ~March 2).
  • Decisions Announced: Approximately 3–4 weeks after submission.
  • Residency Terms: Options include three-month, six-month, or twelve-month periods; decisions on start dates are coordinated on acceptance. (Rolling applications remain open for international artists beyond the open-call window.)
