Jehangir Art Gallery, 161-B, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Kala Ghoda, Fort, Mumbai

Silence, 1974, Mixed Media on Paper Board, 30 x 20 inches

Art Magnum and Gallery Time and Space present A Moment in Modernity, a solo exhibition of works by artist Haren Thakur, curated by art historian Dr. Alka Pande. The show presents a rich retrospective of Haren Thakur’s five-decade-long practice rooted in Santiniketan philosophies and informed by his engagement with tribal and rural communities in eastern India. His vibrant works in acrylic and watercolour on Nepalese rice paper reflect a unique blend of Bengal School influences, tribal symbology, and modernist movements like Cubism and Egyptian classicism. Thakur’s work is both a tribute to vernacular aesthetics and a profound articulation of India’s regional modernities.
