Ai Weiwei’s first solo exhibition in India will bring together a selection of his iconic works, including the large-scale compositions made from toy bricks Surfing (After Hokusai) and Water Lilies, as well as works that reflect his investigations into material evidence and cultural memory. The exhibition will also debut three new works made from toy bricks based on historic Indian paintings, expanding his engagement with reproduction, fragmentation, and the politics of image-making into South Asian contexts. Presented in Delhi, the exhibition will situate Weiwei’s global concerns within a region shaped by his own negotiations with history, labour, and the circulation of forms.
