Inspired by the ritualistic dances of lower caste communities in Dravidian traditions, in which human bodies ceremonially transform into those of gods, this performance poses a bodily and discursive challenge to hegemonies of brahmanical knowledge production as lived in contemporary India and as recorded in colonial German archives, by invoking the body of the demigod Gulikan.

Activated by artists, Jyothidas K V and Sajan Mani, India Art Fair 2024’s Performance Art Programme, BODi-Verse invites the public to experience performance as a method of conceiving and realising art.
