Dhoomimal Gallery presents Can you see a taste?, a solo exhibition of recent paintings by Dhanashri Sujit Deshmukh.
Delving into synesthesia, the artist asks whether one can see a taste or hear a picture? Through vividly textured paintings, she offers that if one engages deeply with any form of expression, the senses are activated and freely engage at multiple levels. In her current body of work, both process and material bear a direct impact in the visuals she creates. Each gesture and movement leave bold, striking marks on her surfaces. She uses her hands and feet, unconventional tools like squeegees and knives, pieces of cardboard and discarded cloth. The direct interaction with the canvas, with minimal intermediaries like brushes, appealed to her sensibilities in achieving the desired results.
