DAG Presents, Contours of Identity : Francis Newton Souza & Avinash Chandra which is celebrating the birth centenary of F. N. Souza and pairs him with his fellow émigré artist Avinash Chandra, two of the best-known Indian artists in London in the 60s . They share significant parallels in their lives and careers, as explored in this exhibition. Souza, a founding member of the Progressive Artists Group, moved to London in 1949, while Chandra followed in 1956 after a brief teaching stint in Delhi. Although they maintained ties with India, London became the hub where they shaped their unique styles.
