Dhoomimal Gallery presents Dawn of an Age: Art, Witness, and the Making of Independent South Asia, a group exhibition, featuring artists Chittaprosad, Zainul Abedin, Somnath Hore, Sushil Sarkar, Sailoz Mookherjea, V.S. Adurkar, B.C. and Sanyal. The exhibition traces six decades of artistic witness, resilience, and visual identity from the birth of modern South Asia. Drawn entirely from the gallery’s historic inventory acquired directly from artists or curated over several decades, the exhibition features drawings, prints, watercolours, and oil paintings created across six pivotal decades. Dawn of an Age demonstrates how modern South Asian art grew directly from the real-life birth of a region, capturing both the trauma of anti-colonial struggle and the promise of newly won freedom.
