India Art Fair presents ‘Disobedient Objects: The Biography of Clothes’ curated by Sreyansi Singh, in association with Fashion Design Council of India for Young Collectors’ Programme at STIR.
Disobedient Objects: The Biography of Clothes locates clothes-making as active research and practice, gathering artists and designers whose works—both embodied and uninhabited, interrogate the layered and often conflicted intentions that clothes carry.
The works in the exhibition assert the counter-powers of clothing, how clothes hold intimate politics of the maker while critiquing the systems that govern their making and use. Across medium, material and authorship, they stage speculative gestures of personal lives; foreground women’s invisible labor; address ecological crises held through acts of salvaging, mending, and reconstituting cloth; and insist a drive for experimental impulse and disruption.
