Gallery XXL is honoured to present the first solo exhibition in India of the late Hanif Kureshi — Artist, Artistic Director and Co-Founder of St+art India Foundation, Guerrilla Art & Design, XXL Collective and Gallery XXL. Opening on the artist’s birth anniversary, October 12, the exhibition will celebrate Hanif’s life and legacy while unveiling his visionary studio practice. This exhibition will present Hanif’s specific body of work including the Painter Kureshi, Tetris and Urdu series displayed within the exhibition while simultaneously showcasing his practice, as one of the early pioneers of the Indian street art movement, to present how he viewed the streets as both his laboratory and inspiration for fueling a studio practice. A practice that is rooted in typography — where letters and words transcend flat surfaces, transforming them into sculptural and spatial forms. Ultimately, the exhibition is also a proposition for artists and creative practitioners to delve deeper into inquiries that are centred around — ideating upon, processing and creating art as well as art spaces that envision to be inclusive, diverse and accessible for all.
