Ashvita’s presents In Good Company, a solo show of works by Maanas Udayakumar. This show traces an intimate yet assured shift in the artist’s practice and brings together a new body of oil paintings that emerge from the same studio environment that shaped his earlier works, but approach it with a markedly different pace and emotional register.
In his first solo exhibition in 2024, Udayakumar painted the world immediately around him. Working in acrylic emulsions on hand-stretched canvases and large sheets of paper, he captured fleeting scenes from within and around his studio. These works carried the urgency of daily life, as though the artist was trying to hold onto a feeling before it slipped away. In Good Company marks a decisive turn. While the scale of the works remains expansive, the handling has slowed. Oils, long his preferred medium, return here with intention. The surfaces are layered and patient. Colours deepen, forms settle, and compositions feel anchored rather than passing. The paintings no longer chase the moment; they remain with it.
