Gallerie Splash presents Kani: Garden as First Sight, a solo exhibition of Kerala-based artist Roy K John, curated by Satyajit Dave. The exhibition explores the garden as a dynamic space of memory, perception, and transformation. Rooted in the cultural conceptualization of Kani—the auspicious, intentional first sight of beauty, abundance, and hope tradition offers at dawn—the exhibition reframes conventional landscapes into immersive visual thresholds. Roy K John combines his training in traditional Kerala mural painting with contemporary practices to present orchards, groves, and botanical forms through layered compositions, rhythmic lines, and rich color palettes. The exhibition also highlights Roy’s recent wooden leaf sculptures, extending his botanical inquiry into three-dimensional, tactile forms that reflect both the abundance and fragility of the natural ecosystem.
