Sundaram Tagore Gallery, presents Miya Ando’s Rain Drawings, a solo exhibition of new and recent drawings explores the many ways rain is observed and named in Japanese. Expanding on her book Water of the Sky: A Dictionary of 2,000 Japanese Words for Rain (The MIT Press, 2025), Ando revisits selected words through drawings made with natural indigo dye, graphite and pure silver powder on handmade kōzo paper. Rooted in close observation, her practice explores the relationship between language, time and the natural world. Through the shifting tones of indigo and the delicate interplay of light and texture, Ando invites viewers to consider how naming a fleeting phenomenon can change the way we perceive it.
