Art Centrix Space presents Room for Banana Republic, an 8-artist group show curated by Manan Shah. Bringing together artists Gurdeep Brar, Hemangini Maharaul, Hemant Gavankar, Jagannath Panda, KP Pradeepkumar, Martand Khosla, Pinaki Ranjan Mohanty, and Valay Gada, the exhibition reflects on the fragile dialogue between state authority, ecological imbalance, and the politics of aspiration. Expanding on its title, Room for Banana Republic reflects on the divisive politics underlying the narratives of progress and development. The exhibition explores how state-led urbanisation and industrial growth often come at the cost of ecological balance and social equity, drawing attention to questions of power, access, and the uneven distribution of environmental burdens. Through painting, sculpture, and mixed media works, the participating artists navigate themes of dispossession, environmental degradation, and resistance. Collectively, the exhibition underscores how ecological concerns are deeply embedded within larger socio-political realities, urging viewers to reconsider the relationship between people, land, and governance.
