Mumbai based contemporary artist Sameer Kulavoor — supported by St+Art Foundation India — has designed the facade of India Art Fair, the country’s biggest commissioned canvas covering three exhibition tents. Titled This is Not a Still Life, his design is a celebration and tribute to the ordinary men, women, objects and traditions that make a city buzzing with life and colour.
Sameer Kulavoor’s work lies at the intersection of art, graphic design & contemporary illustration, in the form of paintings, murals, books, zines, prints and objects. Constantly exploring and understanding the impact that time, culture, politics and socio-economic conditions have on our visible and invisible surroundings, Kulavoor has produced a number of well-known zines, as well as worked on a number of large-scale public art projects and paintings which are on view in Auckland, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi and Chennai. A Man of the Crowd (2018) was Kulavoor’s first solo presentation at TARQ. Most recently, his drawings and paintings were part of the Mumbai Pavilion at the Goethe Institut curated by Kaiwan Mehta.
