Grosvenor Gallery presents a solo exhibition of work by renowned British sculptor Stephen Cox RA. Renowned for his monumental stone sculptures that fuse classical Western and non-Western traditions, this exhibition shifts focus to the intimate scale of Cox’s work. On display will be a selection of bronze sculptures, accompanied by preparatory sketches and studies, offering a deeper look into the artist’s exploration of form, material, and spiritual resonance.
Drawing on the architectural and devotional traditions of ancient Egypt, early Christianity, and Hindu India, Cox has developed a sculptural language that bridges East and West. His work frequently employs symbolic materials — such as Imperial porphyry, once reserved for Roman emperors, and granite sourced from ancient quarries in southern India — imbued with cultural and spiritual significance.
This exhibition at Grosvenor Gallery runs concurrently with Stephen Cox: Myth, the artist’s critically acclaimed retrospective at Houghton Hall in Norfolk.
