Gallery Dotwalk, First Floor, D 34, Block D, Defence Colony, New Delhi, India

Sadanand K. Bakre - Untitled

The Architecture of the Void: Lines on a Postcolonial Skeleton gathers drawings, watercolours, etchings and works on paper by a startlingly diverse group of modern Indian artists. The exhibition begins from the conviction that paper is not merely a neutral support but a site where the aspirations of a postcolonial world are negotiated line by line. In the mid-twentieth century, as bodies, borders and belief systems were being redrawn, many artists chose the immediacy of the sketch, the etching plate, the watercolor sheet over the more monumental statement of oil on canvas. On paper, doubt can remain visible; erasure leaves a ghost. Paper becomes a sensitive membrane, absorbing structural anxiety, political violence and cosmic speculation, holding in tension both erasure and emergence.
