Arthshila Santiniketan presentsĀ The Green Room, Naveen Kishore’s solo exhibition of photographs taken along the Hooghly River.
Using old-fashioned analogue Nikon cameras and transparency film, Kishore documents Kumartuli, a small hamlet by the river which is home to traditional artisans, potters, and artists who sculpt and paint idols of gods and goddesses for Bengali festivals. Kishore’s photographs capture the process, the preparations and the background activities that go into creation of these deities, before they are shipped out to be worshipped across thousands of community pujas across Bengal.
