TRACING THE CARTOGRAPHER'S TRAIL: MANISH PUSHKALE

March 20-May 7, 2021

Akar Prakar, D-43, Defence Colony, New Delhi, Delhi, India

Akar Prakar presents a selection of exquisite works by Manish Pushkale.

One of India’s most known mid-career abstract painters, Manish Pushkale has significantly contributed to contemporary art practices through his unique approach. With no formal training in art but a powerful and sensitive initiation into it at Bharat Bhavan in Bhopal, Manish has developed a language of abstraction that carries an imprint of his own, rooted in Indian aesthetics.

Through the exhibition, Pushkale uses the running stitch associated with the kantha tradition of embroidery, employing this as a powerful painted motif. Another series within the exhibition also explores the artist’s fascination with geology, archaeology and epigraphy in compelling, enigmatic images.
