The Visual Arts Gallery at India Habitat Centre presents a tribute to the late artist Shri Pratap Deb, through a retrospective solo exhibition celebrating the life and art of Pratap Deb. A graduate of Government College of Art and Craft, Calcutta, 1956, Deb’s remarkable journey spans seven decades of artistic creation. His peers, renowned artists Ganesh Haloi and Sakti Burman, remember him for his brilliant artworks during their academic days. The artist started as a graphic designer with advertising agencies and subsequently joined as Head of the Mass Communication department with the Ministry of Agriculture and subsequently with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. He designed iconic campaigns like “Jai Jawan. Jai Kisan.” and “Hum Do. Hamare Do.” Post-retirement, he transitioned to teaching and eventually found his moorage at Lalit Kala Akademi Studio in Garhi, New Delhi, where he painted with passion until early 2020.
Known for his evocative visual language, which wove together elements of realism, symbolism, and social narrative, Pratap Deb has left behind a compelling body of artworks. This exhibition offers viewers a rare opportunity to explore over 40 original artworks — including oils, acrylics, drawings, and mixed media pieces — all of which are being exhibited for the first time.
