WEFT Foundation, in partnership with the Kingdom of the Netherlands, presents the works of Dutch artist Wilna Simpelaar in an exhibition titled WHERE THE THREAD TURNED, featuring the exquisite tapestry artworks handcrafted in India and the Netherlands. This special international collaboration celebrates 40 years of the Kanoria Centre for Arts, Ahmedabad, bringing together tradition, craftsmanship, and contemporary textile design. For Wilna Simpelaar, weaving is a meditative act—an exploration of presence, memory, and emotion. Working primarily in the Gobelin technique, an intricate and ancient form of tapestry weaving, she constructs each image slowly, reversing the composition as she weaves from a cartoon pinned behind the warp. Her chosen materials—wool, silk, and cotton—carry both expressive potential and symbolic resonance.
