Wiping Out: KAROLINE SCHREIBER

February 9, 2025 4:30 pm — 5:00 pm

NSIC Grounds

The work Wiping Out is about extinct animals. The live performance shows the artist using a broom and black sand to draw and wipe out extinct animal species, reflecting on the destructive influence of humans on the biodiversity of our planet. It addresses scientific research proving that human activity and the resulting environmental damage are driving mass extinction. As a human being, Schreiber sees herself as partly responsible for the silent disappearance of animals through her behaviour, and against her will. Her video work emphasises the leading role of humans in the extinction of animal species. Her drawings appear and disappear in painterly movement, reminiscent of early cave paintings.
