Supported by Exhibit 320

Deepak Kumar’s Breathing Space examines abandoned and unfinished construction sites as nature’s space to reclaim and support spontaneous growth – of plant life, insects, birds, and the regeneration of soil. The towering sculptures in his work foreground resilient species of weeds to reinstate them as vital contributors in sustaining ecological balance and urban biodiversity. Accompanied by field-based drawings and plant maps, the work invites viewers to reflect on their relationship with nature, and how withdrawal and neglect can allow other life forms to thrive.
