Grosvenor Gallery
Founded in 1960 by American sociologist and collector Eric Estorick, Grosvenor Gallery began as a pioneering space for international modern art. While its early years were defined by major European exhibitions, the gallery’s current contribution has been its sustained support for South Asian modern and contemporary art.
In 2006, the gallery expanded its engagement through a landmark partnership with Vadehra Art Gallery in New Delhi, creating Grosvenor Vadehra to facilitate deeper cultural exchange between India and the UK. This collaboration brought major international exhibitions to India, including shows of Picasso, Lucian Freud, and Francis Bacon alongside leading South Asian artists such as Tyeb Mehta and Souza.
Today, Grosvenor Gallery remains a prominent platform for artists from India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, especially mid-century modernists including the Bombay Progressives, the 43 Group and Abdur Rahman Chughtai.
Its contemporary programme features Rasheed Araeen, Faiza Butt, Olivia Fraser, Dhruva Mistry, and others.
