Kalakriti Art Gallery presents Anupama Alias Anil’s solo exhibition A Room for Refuge. The exhibition takes its name from her studio – a space that she inhabits and is vital to where her works come into being. Anupama Alias Anil presents a body of work consisting of paintings, sculptures, and assemblages drawn from interconnected bodies of work that consider a transitional time of being. Her practice is autobiographical, and reveals her inner thoughts, fears and apprehensions, aspirations and beliefs. Her work re-visualises and re-envisions her idea of self, and her female protagonists often appear in ambiguous environments as seen in her artwork Hidden Meaning of the Last Meal. Both artists are similar in the sense that their works invite the viewer to reflect, and their works showcase an in-between space where personal memory expands into a shared collective, cultural experience.
