Confronting 'Digital' Sacre with NewArtX

February 1, 2026 2:00 pm — 4:00 pm

What happens when we stop treating digital tools as mere instruments of reproduction and start recognizing them as sites of epistemological rupture? NewArtX positions itself at the contested intersection of art and technology, not to celebrate innovation uncritically, but to examine how digital mediums fundamentally support artistic production, circulation, and meaning-making.

The artist-led session invites artist Gigi Sacrai and Sibdas Sengupta to respond to how digital moves beyond the familiar logic of “extension”and how they confront “digital” as an autonomous apparatus with its own politics, materiality, and aesthetic demands with in the scope of their own practise. The session also focuses on institutional responses. Saryu Pareek Gupta addresses how to approach digital not through defensive critique of technological change, but through substantive engagement with its implications.

The dialogue we seek is not harmonious synthesis, but an interrogation: What does the digital enable that was previously impossible? What does it foreclose? Who benefits from the increasingly digitised art world, and who is rendered obsolete?
