Shrine Empire presents a show by Baaraan Ijlal Hostile Witness at Bikaner House in New Delhi. The exhibition shows Ijlal’s large works that recreate structures from Indian cities close to the artist. Seemingly guileless, the works are rich in gentle narrative, but elusive nevertheless in meaning and in layered complexities. Ijlal’s works are panoramic in the way they embrace human activity in interconnected spaces humming with movement and intense relationships. The works explore the artist’s relationship to memory— her ancestral home in Bhopal, and houses experienced in Lucknow and elsewhere.
