47 A presents Looking Back, Looking Forward, a show exploring Ajrakh mastery through the work of master craftsman-turned-artist Khalid Amin Khatri. The exhibition reframes craft as authorial art, tracing Kachchh’s traditions into contemporary practice and the modern artist as custodian of tradition. Khalid expands Ajrakh through natural dye painting, brushwork, overprinting and erasure. Developed over sixteen years since his return to Mumbai, these processes become a tonal language capturing the city’s dense architecture, eroded surfaces, fluidity and restlessness.
