Anant Art Gallery presents Phantasms in the Hold, a solo exhibition by Thamshangpha ‘Merci’ Maku, curated by Anna Sireiliu Charenamei and Sohorpem Kazingmei, with Shaleen Wadhwana. The exhibition explores invisibilised histories and racialised presents through the borderland as both physical territory and inner condition. Drawing on inherited basket-weaving traditions and intergenerational oral knowledge, Merci expands these practices into wood carving, weaving and stitching, creating a distinctive visual language that bridges traditional and contemporary forms.
